Course Description

This program provides participants with the skills and knowledge required to use specialised equipment in the provision of resuscitation and oxygen therapy in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines.

This program applies to persons who may be required to use specialised equipment to provide advanced resuscitation or oxygen therapy in a range of complex situations, including community and workplace settings. 

Unit of Competency

  • HLTAID015 Provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy

Course Outline

  • Responding to an emergency situation
  • Ensuring the safety of self, bystanders and the casualty
  • Recognising the need for CPR, advanced resuscitation or oxygen therapy
  • Management of life-threatening bleeds
  • Advanced airway management
  • Performing advanced resuscitation procedures
  • Delivering oxygen therapy
  • Communicating and recording the details of an incident
  • Reviewing the incident
  • Psychological impacts.

This course is scheduled for:

1 day of face-to-face learning and assessment

Pre-Requisite and Entry Requirements

Students must hold certification for the following units of competency for enrolment into this course and must supply their credential at the time of enrolment:

  • HLTAID011 Provide First Aid

Students holding a previous certification for the unit of competency and are seeking  must supply their credential at the time of enrolment.

Students must have language, literacy and numeracy skills (LLN) to interpret and apply relevant information to commence learning in this program. An LLN assessment may be conducted upon receipt of enrolment application to ensure each student has the appropriate level of skills required to undertake this course.

Certification

Students who successfully complete this course and demonstrate competence will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment under the Australian Qualifications Framework. The certification will be issued by Risk Response and Rescue (RTO 90774).

Course Inclusions

All course materials, handouts and personal protective equipment will be provided.

Student Requirements

Students must be physically capable of performing at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on the floor.

Students must wear appropriate clothing and footwear when attending face-to-face sessions.

Additional Information

CPR training must be updated every 12 months.
